Black Achiever’s Award Recipient

Lisa Napier

A native Buffalonian, Lisa Napier loves her community and has worked selflessly in the nonprofit sector to help provide resources for underserved populations. Lisa has served these targeted groups in various capacities for over 25 years including community engagement, outreach, and volunteer management.

In addition to her role as Public Relations and Marketing Consultant for the Willie Hutch Jones Educational and Sports Program (WHJESP), Ms. Napier is currently employed in the Patient Education Department at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.   Lisa owns WNY Media House, a boutique media buying and marketing agency. Her clients include the Erie County Department of Health where she serves as a Public Health Consultant, providing presentations on breast health to African American women.

Lisa received a national award given by Public Broadcasting (PBS) for Volunteer Manager of the Year for single-handedly fulfilling 5000 volunteer positions at WNED TV/FM/AM Buffalo-Toronto in one year.  While at PBS, she co-founded the WNY Volunteer Fair. This event was later identified as a community asset, a “one-stop-shop” for those seeking volunteer opportunities. When Lisa left WNED, the event was taken over by the United Way.

In her role as the Marketing Manager at Cancer Services Program of Erie County, she was cited by the NYS Department of Health for “Best Practices” in Public Education and Targeted Outreach for her cutting-edge campaigns and ability to reach the underserved and “hard to reach” populations.

A member of the Chapel at Cheektowaga, Napier is the proud wife of 25 years of Gregory and mother of two dynamic sons.  Josef is a political science major at SUNY Fredonia, and Nathan, a high school junior, is an internationally ranked classical pianist. Napier’s mother enrolled her grandsons in a WHJESP golf clinic over 10 years ago, which is how Lisa initially connected with the organization.

Since 2009, Ms. Napier has worked to connect the public with the mission of the Willie Hutch Jones Educational and Sports Program.  Believing wholeheartedly in its numerous valuable services, she is proud to be part of this dynamic team. “We all share the same passion, to provide a quality program of academics, sports, and the arts, at no cost, to the youth of our community.”

Lisa recalls the pride she felt as she watched her father receive his Black Achiever Award in 1979.  She is truly grateful to also receive this prestigious award and honored to be among her fellow recipients.
