2014/2015 After School Program

The WHJESP offers a comprehensive after school program which runs daily Monday through Friday from 4:00 pm-5:30 pm. The program runs September through June.

The after school programs for 2014/2015 start September 8 and run through June 19, 2015 at Enterprise Charter School.


Math Club 4-8th grade on Mondays)

Our math instructors will tutor and teach students to perform more proficient in various areas of mathematics ranging from basic addition and subtraction through geometry. Students will be evaluated to find their skill levels to establish their baseline for improvement.  Homework will be reviewed in addition to mathematical group strategy games will keep an enjoyable and interesting learning environment. New York State Standards will also be incorporated to keep all levels on task for final exams.

Science Club (4-8th grade on Tuesdays)

Our science instructors will conduct several different labs that will range from lab safety, first aid, to topics such as: how different hair products keep hair from breaking, test to see if the amount of vitamin C changes over time, find out what makes yeast grow the best, construct solar heaters from recycled products and figuring out what kind of soil is in their yard and see how much water it holds! Students will be geared towards local, regional, and state competitions. New York State Standards will also be incorporated to keep all levels on task for superior test results on their final exams. There is also an offsite component to this program.

Computers(4th – 8th graders on Mondays)

Our instructor teaches the youth how to use XP operating system, Microsoft Works, and Microsoft Office applications such as, Publisher and Excel. The students are also instructed on how to setup their own e-mail accounts, develop their own website and internet safety. There is also an offsite component to this program.

Steel Drum (3rd – 8th graders Mondays and Wednesdays)

The program will train students to play steel drums. In addition to developing their musical talents they will need to learn persistence, discipline, dedication, teamwork, self-reliance, group-reliance, communication skills, personal care, responsibility, and other inter-personal skills and qualities necessary to develop sound leadership traits. Children will also have the opportunity to showcase their talents through at least 3 performances a year.

Chess Club (1st – 8th graders on Thursdays)

Our chess program will teach the children the history of the game, rules, and movements along with the values of each piece. Students will learn how to play team chess, and be presented wit various chess situational problems to test their knowledge and skill development. They will be taught how to play by all the rules of local and national tournaments with the usage of clocks and score sheets.

Hustle for Health (All grades on Fridays) – 1st session is 9/12 to 10/24

The Hustle For Health MOVEment is a fun new way to get active, eat better and live a happier, healthier lifestyle.  It’s a dance party hosted by Jazzy T with original music by DJ Maestro that enhances your mind, body & spirit!  We’ve taken our cue from the popular line dances and added an aerobic twist and holistic approach to wellness.  Join us for a special 6-week program that includes dance aerobics classes, vision and focus workshops and nutrition discussions led by professionals.

Soccer (All grades Tuesday and Thursdays)

Students will be taught basic skills, strategies, rules and conventions, and participate safely with appropriate personal, social behavior and job opportunities that are related to the field will be covered. Students  will be given a warm-up period prior to each session.

Girl Scouts (K-3rd)

Girl Scouts earn badges, hike and camp, participate in the cookie program, and much more. They improve neighborhoods, protect the planet, design robots, and establish sports clinics.

Boy Scouts (K- 3rd graders on Mondays)

The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation’s largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.  For over a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. Homework Assistance (All grades Tuesday and Thursdays)

Children will be provided homework assistance in Math and ELA assignments.

WNY Book Arts Club (3rd – 8th graders on Wednesdays)

This 12 week program will offer Book Arts Classes on bookmaking and printmaking taught by the WNY Book Arts Center.  We will learn everything from simple origami books and hand-stitched notebooks, to monotype printmaking and bubble printing!  By creating their own visual & handwritten stories and poems, each child will fall in love with books again!
